Robert Burns Learning Circle: An In-Person Online Class
MCPL is pleased to host a free online class on the Scottish poet Robert Burns for three consecutive Tuesdays (Jan 24, Jan 31, Feb 7) @ 5:00-6:45pm in the computer lab. The online class will be taught by faculty from the University of Glasgow's Centre for Robert Burns Studies through FutureLearn.com. The library is hosting in-person meetings for those interested in this publicly-available course as a way to facilitate local discussions of online content and global topics, and to support access to online content through our facilities and staff assistance. The course will examine the bard's life and poetry, Scottish contexts for interpreting his poems, and Burns Night celebrations. The class coincides with the traditional January commemoration of Burns's birth date and offers a unique opportunity to consider local Burns Dinners in a global historical context. Meetings will include time to explore multimedia class materials, interact with online participants, and, especially, exchange thoughts and questions about the material. To register, please stop by the Reference Desk or call 524-3600.
