Library Assistant I

Nantahala Community Library

  • Start Date: June 16, 2019
  • Starting Salary: $10.00 - $10.50 per hour
Year-round, part-time. Average of 14 hours per week. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule. The Nantahala Community Library serves as a community gathering place for the area’s full-time and part-year residents. As a member of the Fontana Regional Library system, the Nantahala Library helps to provide the public of Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties with excellent service and access to resources to suit all educational, informational, and recreational needs.

An applicant for this position must enjoy working with the public and be able to work independently and exercise initiative. Familiarity with the community is vital. Successful candidates should have the ability to effectively use a variety of library equipment, technology, and software. Responsibilities include assisting library users, checking library materials in and out, creating and updating library records, and collecting fines and fees. Working with the volunteers, the Community Club, School personnel, and other area organizations is crucial for success. Public service experience and high school diploma or GED is mandatory.

Administrative Assistant

Marianna Black Library

  • Starting Salary: $9.00 per hour
The Marianna Black Library seeks a 20 hour per week Administrative Assistant.  An employee in this position performs administrative work involving a variety of office assistance tasks in support of Library operations, providing program support, preparing and maintaining files and records, performing routine bookkeeping functions, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work involves frequent public contact and is accomplished in accordance with Fontana Regional Library (FRL) policies, guidelines, and procedures. Work is performed under the supervision of the Librarian.

Applicants must possess basic computer skills, enjoy working with the public, and be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekend hours. Other responsibilities include performing clerical tasks including word processing and data entry; preparing reports and statistics; processing invoices, maintaining accurate and up-to-date ledgers; processing daily receipts and depositing monies received.  This position also assistants at the circulation desk, including checking books in and out, and interacting with library customers in a professional manner.

One year of relevant experience and high school diploma or GED are required. Salary is $9.00 per hour.

Information Technology Officer

  • Starting Salary: $44,000.00 - $47,000.00 a year
The Fontana Regional Library, serving Jackson, Macon, and Swain Counties, seeks a full-time qualified professional to serve as part of the Library’s management team. The Information Technology Officer is responsible for technology planning and projects, directing and administering the activities of the Information Technology Department for the library system. This position reports to the Regional Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Information Technology Officer will direct, organize, and control all aspects of information technology governance and activities for the Library, including emerging technologies, information technology security, ethics, contract management, project and resource management, and sustainability. This position provides leadership and guidance to information technology services staff, oversees risk assessment and management, and assures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.  As part of the senior management team, the Information Technology Officer participates in the strategic planning, policy development, marketing, fund development and leadership of the Library system. The person in this role must have the ability to work independently in high-pressure situations and have excellent communication and customer service skills. Applicants should possess a thorough knowledge of governmental information systems principles and standards of federal, state, and county regulations, policies, and procedures.  The successful candidate will integrate a “big-picture” perspective with an attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.  

QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems or a related field and 5 years of experience in local government or public service information systems management, at least 3 years of which must have been at a supervisory level is required.  A Master’s degree in administration or library science and public library work experience is preferred. Completion of a Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CGCIO) program is desirable.
