Assistant Macon County Librarian

The Macon County Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, and energetic candidate to fill the position of Assistant County Librarian. Macon County Library is a member of Fontana Regional Library, a public library system with six member libraries and one bookmobile providing service in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties. The ideal candidate for the Assistant County Librarian will provide service with a friendly and helpful attitude and thrive in a rapidly changing environment.

Responsibilities 

Responsibilities include assisting the County Librarian in the management, supervision, and administration of the libraries within the County. The Assistant County Librarian coordinates a wide variety of library services, oversees technical services activities, and participates in the development and delivery of public services. The Assistant County Librarian works cooperatively with staff throughout Fontana Regional Library to plan, implement, and evaluate long and short-term goals and objectives. Qualifications 

Qualifications required for the Assistant County Librarian include an ALA- accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science, three years’ public library experience, three years’ customer service experience, and two years’ supervisory experience. The successful candidate should be a creative self-starter with effective written and verbal communication skills; strong leadership skills; commitment to quality customer service and effective teamwork; good interpersonal skills; and a strong planning and information technology background. Experience with Friends of the Library organizations, local governing agencies, volunteer groups, and other community organizations will be helpful

Finance Officer

The Fontana Regional Library, serving Jackson, Macon, and Swain Counties in North Carolina, seeks a full-time qualified professional to serve as part of the Library’s management team. The Finance Officer is responsible for accounting and financial oversight of a $3.5 million budget. This position reports to the Regional Director and Board of Trustees.

Responsibilities 

The Finance Officer will direct, organize, and control all aspects of financial management activities for the Library, including general accounting, payroll, planning, audit preparation, grant management, budget development, and human resources. This position provides leadership and guidance to financial services staff, oversees insurance and risk management, and assures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.  As part of the senior management team, the Finance Officer participates in the strategic planning, policy development, marketing, fund development and leadership of the Library system. The person in this role must have the ability to work independently in high-pressure situations and have excellent communication and customer service skills. Applicants should possess a thorough knowledge of governmental accounting principles and of federal, state, and county fiscal regulations, policies, and procedures.  The successful candidate will integrate a “big-picture” perspective with an attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.  

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 5 years of experience in local government or public service financial management, at least 3 years of which must have been at a supervisory level is required.  A Master’s degree in administration or library science and public library work experience is preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) is desirable.

Library Assistant I

Macon County Public Library is a member of Fontana Regional Library, a public library system with six member libraries and one bookmobile providing service in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties.

The ideal candidate for the Library Assistant I will be a team player who can provide library services to meet the needs of the public. If you thrive in a rapidly changing environment while maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude, this may be the job for you.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications required for the Library Assistant I include a High School Diploma or GED. One year of customer service experience is required. One year of library experience is recommended.

The successful candidate should have a commitment to quality customer service with excellent communication skills. Strong technology skills and experience working with a variety of social media tools are a must. A familiarity with current reading trends is needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities for the Library Assistant I include providing adult reference service, working adult and circulation service desks, assisting patrons in locating materials and using the library catalog, assisting with readers' advisory service for adults, shelving library materials and keeping shelves in order in adult services area. The Library Assistant I assists in the planning and delivery of library activities and events for adults and teens. The Library Assistant I works cooperatively with staff throughout Fontana Regional Library to plan implement, and evaluate long and short-term goals and objectives.

The Library Assistant I is a part-time position of 20 hours per week with evening and weekend work required. Salary range is $10.00-$11.00 per hour accompanied by paid leave and retirement benefits. The position is available July 15th .
