Conservation Through Community: Crowdsourcing Science

Got a smartphone and want to use it for something besides doom-scrolling? Non-profits, land managers, and scientists around the world are using the casual observations from folks like you to discover species new to science, monitor rare species, restore habitat, and make the world a tiny bit better. Come to this talk facilitated by Dr. Michael Wall and be inspired by examples of regular folks helping to discover amazing things by simply taking pictures and posting to iNaturalist. The lecture will conclude with information on how to join the NC City Nature Challenge and win sweet prizes by taking pictures of nature.

Dr. Michael Wall is Executive Director at Balsam Mountain Trust and an insect, wildflower, fungi, and iNaturalist fanboy. This program will meet in the Community Room of the Jackson County Public Library. The Jackson County Public Library is a member of Fontana Regional Library. For more information please call the library at 828-586-2016.
