DocuWednesday

June's DocuWednesday movie is 'Equal Means Equal' a documentary about the Equal Rights Amendement, what it is, why we need it, and the state of ratification today. Two members of the local ERA-NC Alliance organization, Jimmie Cochran Pratt and Lynne Joshi, will be here to show the short 30 minute video, talk about the state of the ERA here in North Carolina, and lead a community discussion on the topic. Free POPCORN is provided. Feel free to bring your own non-alcoholic beverage. 
Jimmie Cochran Pratt is a native of Haywood County, NC and educated in WNC schools including Haywood Community College, Mars Hill University, and Western Carolina University (MPA).  Pratt holds a certificate in nonprofit management from Duke University.  She has spent her professional life in higher education with an emphasis in fund development and career & leadership development, serving HCC, ABTCC, UNC Charlotte, Columbia University in the City of New York, and the University of Prishtina, Kosovo for the U.S. Department of State.

Jimmie is retired and a community/political activist, working for Equal Rights Amendment ratification in the 1970’s and is currently Vice President for Fundraising & Action Team Leader for
Congressional District 10,
ERA-NC Alliance and member of the League of Women Voters of Asheville & Buncombe County.


Lynne Joshi is chair of the Equal Rights Amendment - League Action Committee for the League of Women Voters Asheville Buncombe County.

Prior to moving to Asheville three years ago, she lived in Wilmington, Delaware, where she joined the League in 1981, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During her years in Delaware she served as treasurer of the Delaware state League and as state Public Relations Chair. In Florida she served as Broward League webmaster and then as President, League of Women Voters of Broward County from 2013-15.
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Lynne earned a B.S. Degree from Auburn University and holds two Master's Degrees – one from Louisiana State University and one in Library and Information Science from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA. She worked with the Cooperative Extension Service as a 4-H youth advisor in several states and after receiving her library science degree, was employed as a medical librarian for 17 years.

In addition to spending quality time with her daughter and two granddaughters, Lynne enjoys reading and hiking.
