On Tuesday, January 30, in the historic courtroom at the Jackson County Public Library in Sylva, Fontana Regional Library will be hosting the second in their semi-annual community information sharing meetings about Broadband. An informal meeting open to the public, the series brings together the various entities concerned with affordable broadband in our region - internet service providers, government (both at the county and state level), representatives of higher education, and regional entities such as the Southwestern Commission.
Developments ARE taking place in our region, and rapidly enough that semi-annual updates are valuable - the issue of affordable broadband plays a critical role in our regional rural communities' education, health, and economic development. Come listen to those developments in reports based on the Southwestern Commission's consultant Phase I survey, local county broadband committee actions, and other important factors.
The time will be 3:30 to 5:00 pm, and there will be a time for audience questions and comments.
Fontana Regional Library, one of the anchor institutions for internet access in Jackson, Swain, and Macon counties, is committed (as one of our 5 long range strategies) to:
CONNECTIVITY -- Affordable broadband service to every home and business. We strive to keep the public informed of initiatives, opportunities, and barriers to connectivity in the region, and advocate for affordable “last mile” broadband connectivity for our service area.
