Raine's story is tragic but hope emerges when she moves to an assisted living facility in Atlanta. There, she reacquaints with her much younger cousin, MaryEtta DeRenne. Etta suffers from a disorder that causes severe edema in her legs, and she must use a walker to navigate the garden she created. The women form a loving friendship, and Raine thrives in Etta's healing garden. However, when Raine's father dies, and his will is read, her husband, Hartley, learns his wife inherits Thimbleberry Farm - and no cash. Now, he's desperate with no way to pay his bookies. And worse, the overlord who runs Hartley's demonic line of work, has suggested that Raine be eliminated.
