The Nantahala Community Library is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic candidate to fill the part-time position of Library Assistant I. The ideal candidate for the Library Assistant I will be a team player who can provide library services to meet the needs of the public. If you thrive in a rapidly changing environment while maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude, this may be the job for you.

Qualifications required for the Library Assistant I include a High School Diploma or GED. One year of customer service experience is required. One year of library experience is recommended. The successful candidate should have a commitment to quality customer service with excellent communication skills. Strong technology skills and the ability to give attention to detail are a must. A familiarity with current reading trends is needed. Preference will be given to those with previous library experience and those who can work a flexible schedule.

An applicant for this position must enjoy working with the public and be able to work independently and exercise initiative. Responsibilities for the Library Assistant I include checking materials in and out, creating, updating, and maintaining library user records, and collecting fines and fees. The Library Assistant I assists patrons in locating materials and using the library catalog, assists with readers’ advisory service, shelves library materials and keeps shelves in order. The Library Assistant I assists with library programs and activities, and provides reference services and facilitates patron usage of library computers, printers and Wi-Fi. This position also works cooperatively with staff throughout Fontana Regional Library to plan implement, and evaluate long and short-term goals and objectives.

The Library Assistant I is a part-time position of 25 hours per week with weekend work required. Starting salary is $10.32 per hour accompanied by paid leave and retirement benefits. Major medical health insurance benefits are not applicable to part-time employees, but you will be entitled to Revive Health benefits. FRL provides a limited health benefit plan to all regular and probationary employees which includes virtual medical and mental health care and discounted lab and pharmacy options.
