Department Supervisor (Youth Services)

The Jackson County Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, and energetic candidate to fill the position of Youth Services Supervisor.  Jackson County Public Library is a member of Fontana Regional Library, a public library system with six member libraries in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties.  The ideal candidate for the Youth Services Supervisor will be a team player who can provide library services to meet the needs of the public. 

QUALIFICATIONS: required for the Youth Services Supervisor include an Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience, with a Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Two years’ library experience and two years’ customer service experience are required.  At least one year’s supervisory experience is strongly preferred.  The successful candidate should have a commitment to quality customer service with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  A thorough knowledge of current reading trends and interests of young people and their caregivers is needed.  Proficiency in using a variety of technology is required.  Strong leadership and coaching skills are a must.

DUTIES: Responsibilities include supervising and training youth services staff, overseeing and participating in daily operations at the Youth Services Desk, assisting patrons in the use of library services, facilities, and equipment, and interpreting library policies for patrons.  The Supervisor is responsible for the planning, delivery, and promotion of storytimes, programs, activities, and displays.  This position is responsible for developing and managing youth library collections to maximize access and use.  The Supervisor works cooperatively with staff throughout the Fontana Regional Library system to plan, implement, and evaluate long and short-term goals and objectives.

SALARY: Salary range is $29,000-$31,000 annually accompanied by a generous benefits package.
