Let's Get Japaneseee: Making Daruma & Okonomiyaki

The Jackson County Public Library will host the 2nd 'Let’s Get Japaneseee' program on Tuesday, January 7th at 6pm Join us in the Community Room to learn how to make Daruma dolls which are  hollow, round, Japanese traditional dolls modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. These dolls, though typically red and depicting the Indian monk, Bodhidharma, vary greatly in color and design depending on region and artist.  Though considered a toy by some, Daruma has a design that is rich in symbolism and is regarded more as a talisman of good luck to the Japanese.  Attendees will also learn how to make and sample Okonomiyaki, Japanese savory pancakes.
*Registration Required* Please call the Jackson County Public Library at 828-586-2016 or email JCPL-Adults@fontanalib.org. The Jackson County Public Library is a member of the Fontana Regional Library.
