The Life of an Acorn: Oaks and Life in Our Forests
The Jackson County Public Library will host a presentation by Balsam Mountain Trust in the Community Room on Thursday, May 22nd at 6 p.m. Join us in celebrating International Biodiversity Day by honoring the mighty oak, a cornerstone of our local woodlands. Directly supporting hundreds of different species of birds, mammals, moths, and other critters, oaks are arguably one of the most important trees of our forests. We will follow the life of an oak from birth through death and beyond, learning the undeniable value of these iconic trees and how we can help preserve them.
Dr. Michael Wall, local botanically-inclined entomologist, is executive director of the Balsam Mountain Trust. This program is free and open to the public. The Jackson County Public Library is a member of the Fontana Regional Library. For more information please call the library at 828-586-2016.
