Kate Adair is a New York investigative reporter targeting two things, a serial killer and a Pulitzer. When the first sets her in his sights, it is Kate who becomes the target. Taken to the North Carolina mountains to hide out, Kate's investigation takes a turn. These mountains hold secrets for Kate. She knows this place, yet nothing seems familiar. Isolated in these mountains, Kate meets people and discovers places that challenge everything she knows to be true. As Kate peels back the layers of the past, she finds herself at the center of the story - a story of family, sacrifice, a mother's love and murder.
