A young woman looks back on the circumstances that led up to her current life in exile from her family. Originally the beloved youngest child of seven Kerrigan children at age twelve Violet inadvertently testified concerning the racist murder of an African-American boy by her older brothers setting into motion their arrests and convictions and her own long estrangement from her parents siblings and the Church.
