    The Macon County Public Library, a member of the Fontana Regional Library, and the Friends of the Library are pleased to be installing their first Little Free Library at the Franklin Town Hall.  If you’re not familiar with Little Free Libraries, check out their website at www.littlefreelibrary.org.
     

  • Support Early Literacy in Your Community

    Join us on November 8th at Jack the Dipper in Sylva from 12-4pm for our second annual fundraising event. 10% of purchases, from open to close, will help fund the Reading Rover, which brings story time and library materials to the door of child care centers in Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties.

  • Ready for School?

    With school starting in early August, it is not too early to prepare for the new school year at preschool, kindergarten, or beyond. Preparations for school may include a new backpack, various school supplies, and a new pair of shoes. However, have you thought about what you can do to prepare your child for learning at school? It is not too late to work on strengthening learning and social skills needed for school success.

  • Fontana Regional Library Hosts "Fewer Footprints And More Tears" Exhibits

    During May, all six libraries in the Fontana Regional Library system will be hosting the exhibit "Fewer Footprints and More Tears: Commemorating the 175th Anniversary of the Trail of Tears." The exhibit is provided by Dr. R. Michael Abram and his wife Dr. Susan Abram in conjunction with the North Carolina Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association.

    The comprehensive exhibit will highlight different aspects of the Trail of Tears starting with copies of the complete documents that led to the removal. Each document is accompanied by pictures of those involved in those decisions, both American and Cherokee.
