Summer Learning & Reading Programs


Jackson County Public Library Summer Learning Program 2021


Jackson County Public Library Kids and Teens (ages 0-18)

Kids and Teens (ages 0-18) can sign up anytime after June 7th for the Summer Learning Program and get their first prize. Sign up in-person at the library, at, or download the Read Squared app. All kids have to do is read (or be read to) 20 minutes a day throughout the Summer to earn prizes. They will get a prize for every 7 days they read, with a total of 7 prizes throughout the Summer. Like last year, we have separate reading logs for ages 0-3 (activity based), 3-11, and 12+.

New virtual programs will be posted on the SLP 2021 YouTube Playlist (with the exception of Rock & Read, which is emailed out and posted on Facebook every Wednesday morning). There will be a Rock & Read activity bag available for pick up starting June 7th with the craft materials that go along with the weekly Rock & Read videos.

Please note: free lunches for kids under 18 will be available from 11:00am-12:00pm Monday-Friday beginning June 14th.

Jackson County Public Library Adult Summer Reading

Adults can sign-up for the Great Jackson County Read, an Adult Summer Reading program, starting on May 25th. This year’s theme is The Four Elements: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. Participants can sign up online using the following link: After signing up, registrants can pick up an official Great Jackson County Read 2021 bookmark and a welcome prize at the Library!

The Great Jackson County Read runs from June 1st to September 6th. Readers earn prizes for the number of pages they read, and all pages read can be submitted through the following link: Each participant who reads at least 750 pages will earn a succulent plant, as plants incorporate all four elements to grow. The top three readers will receive a $75 gift card to a local restaurant for dinner for two!

Hudson Library doesn’t think kids should have all the fun. So we’re offering Adult Summer Reading Bingo! Stop by the library to pick up a bingo card, or download and print:

Hudson Library Children’s Summer Learning Program: Tails & Tales

Online registration recommended; we’re using the online service Read Squared, where you can track your reading time and explore lots of great features – reading lists, games, special missions, and more! You can also register at the library, or phone the library at 828-526-3031. Ages 0-17 are welcome!

If you don’t register in person, stop by the library to pick up your SLP bag. Most of the prizes will be in the bag -- it's up to the parent/guardian to hand out prizes when children have earned them. You'll need to come to the library to collect the final two prizes, a DVD checkout coupon and a free book!


Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library Summer Learning Program 2021

Summer Readers,

Welcome to summer!! We are so excited to be able to continue our summer learning program starting Tuesday June 1, 2021. We are hoping to have a fun and exciting journey with you over the next few weeks! Our theme for this summer is Tails and Tales. We will be exploring jungles, swimming in the sea, and making our way throughout the Earth in search of animals and their different adventures! We are inviting the entire family to join in the fun. No one is too old or too young to take part. There will be activities for all ages. Registrations can be made in person at the library or on the Read Squared app ( . Summer will be packed with programs and activities, and we hope to see you there!!


Macon County Public Library Summer Learning Program 2021


Macon County Public Library Kids Program (Ages 0-12)

Families can begin signing up their children for this year’s Summer Learning Program starting June 1st at While registration this year is online only, staff is more than happy to assist with registration either in person or by phone.

Reading and activity progress can be tracked starting on Monday, June 7th. Children now have the option to track their reading and rewards online or by downloading the Read Squared app. Those able to use our online platform will have access to additional reading suggestions, mini-games, and badges to go along with our traditional prizes. Paper reading logs are available at the children’s desk upon request for children ages 0-4 and 5-12.

All in-person programs are limited to 25 attendees per event to allow for safe distancing. Tickets to these programs are free and will be provided on a first come first serve basis starting at 9am the morning of each 10am program. Masks will be encouraged for all programs and may be required depending on the comfort level of each presenter. We will also continue to offer monthly activity bags in June and July.

Please note: To-Go lunches for kids under 18 will also be available for free throughout the summer from 11:00am-12:00pm Monday-Friday beginning June 1st.

Macon County Public Library Teens Program (Ages 12-18)

Starting June 1st Teens can pick up the Summer Program schedule and sign up for the Summer Reading Program. Our first program will be an animal themed movie day on June 2nd at 3 p.m.

Make sure to keep track of your time spent reading. At the end of summer party on July 28th a grand prize awaits the teen who has spent the most time reading over the summer.

Look forward to catching up with your friends and making new ones during our anime club, board/ videogame days and movies. We’re excited to host programs again, however we still want to keep everyone safe while doing so. Masks and social distancing will be encouraged or required depending on the amount of program attendees.

Anime Club is intended for ages 14-18, Parents of younger teens and tweens please be aware that some anime is rated TV-14 for violence and occasional language. The teen librarian watches everything that is shown beforehand and is watching it with the intended age group in mind. Movies shown may also be PG-13 so if you have any questions please call the library at (828) 524-3600 and ask to speak to Courtney.
