The Marianna Black Library, in Bryson City, continues its Summer Music Series on Thursday, July 28th the traditional music of Larry Barnett and Blue Smith at 7:00 PM.
Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Larry has been living in Bryson City since the 1990s, when he took ownership of a local music store. He has played banjo, fiddle, mandolin or guitar in many bands, but most famously the Sawmill Creek Porch Band – a local favorite. Blue grew up in the Bluegrass Hills of Kentucky, where he learned to play guitar as a boy. After several years on that instrument, he began experimenting with other traditional instruments, first the mandolin, then the banjo, and now you could pretty much say, “if it has strings, Blue can play it – and well!” He has also played with local favorites, The Freighthoppers and The Barn Cats. Blue has also shared the stage with Town Mountain, Balsam Range, Michael Cleveland and the Flame Keepers, Larry Keel, and many more. Now Larry and Blue have gotten together, and they’re one of the tightest duets around.
The Friends of the Marianna Black Library will also be there to provide light snacks and refreshments. This program is free and open to area residents and visitors. Please join us for an evening of great traditional music at the Marianna Black Library. The library is located in Downtown Bryson City at the corner of Academy and Rector.
