Join us for the first meeting of Coloring Confidants, a coloring club for adults, on Thursday, July 17th at 6 PM in the Atrium. The Mayo Clinic states that coloring can help folks relieve stress, promote mindfulness and add enjoyment to their day. Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring your own coloring sheets, pencils, markers, & more. Stop by to chat, color, and build a creative community!
Join us for Creating Community: Tie Dye on Saturday, July 19th at 10 AM in the Atrium. Jance Gibson, a staff member of the adult services team at the Jackson County Public Library, will walk the group through how to complete simple tie dye designs. Materials will be provided for each individual to tie dye a 17 by 17 cotton square, which could be used as a tea towel, bandanna, etc. Participants are welcome to bring their own cotton materials such as shirts, socks, and more to tie dye as well! Please wear clothing you are not worried about getting messy.
A group of women lives in a secluded religious community. After experiencing a series of domestic and sexual abuse incidents, the women must confront the men who hurt them and endure the consequences of the choices they make. They face a complicated conundrum of commitment, faith, and self-preservation.
Rated PG-13, Run Time: 1h 44m, Community Room
Over the course of the year, participants will read The Forest Unseen, find and make visits to your own special forest plot – this could be a favorite spot in a nearby park or wild area, your own backyard, or even your garden or deck - journal your findings in any way that inspires you: drawings, photos, written notes, poetry, etc. Together, we’ll share our observations with fellow club members and enjoy natural history tidbits and nature connection exercises you can try at home. We’ll also contribute valuable scientific observations to the National Phenology Network.
Our plan is to read the book along with the seasons rather than all at once. It's fine for people to come even if they haven't had a chance to get the book and do the reading yet.
To sign up please contact Amy Duggins at aduggins@bmtrust.org. Amy is Community Science Coordinator with Balsam Mountain Trust, and has spent time as a naturalist, field biologist, park ranger, and nature connection mentor.
