This month Fontana Regional Library celebrates the season with an attitude of gratitude! We want to take time to express our thanks to the folks who make our public libraries possible.
A Big “Thank You” to Library Volunteers
Our library volunteers commit to a regular schedule of volunteering. Our volunteers assist with a number of tasks and activities throughout the library. Our “shelvers” reduce the turnaround time for book processing. They quickly get returned books back onto the shelves for others to enjoy! Many of these volunteers also assist with keeping shelves tidy and making sure books are in the correct place on the shelf. We also have a team of trained book repair volunteers, who perform surgery on our “wounded books” to keep them in good shape for patrons. Our AV volunteers assist with audiobook, CD, and DVD repair.
Our youth services volunteers assist with a wide array of activities- keeping the children’s shelves and areas neat and tidy, assisting with decorations and displays, prepping materials and crafts for children’s programs, assisting with children’s programs, helping with the children’s garden, caring for our animal friends, and more! We also have a volunteer who reads in Spanish at our bilingual storytimes.
The Library also has volunteers who provide homework assistance and tutoring, computer training and assistance, and help with digital devices.
Outstanding Volunteer
Susan Carpenter, a volunteer at Nantahala Community Library (NCL), was recently recognized as “Woman of the Year” by the Macon County Community Development Council for her outstanding contributions to her community.Susan volunteers at the library, leading basket and soap making classes and assisting with other library programs. She also participates in the community luncheons. Teresa Bryant, branch supervisor at NCL, remarked that Susan was always willing to jump in to help any time the staff needed assistance.
Thank you Susan and library volunteers for all that you do!
