Tech Time at Hudson Library

On the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, from 1-3 PM, digital navigators will host a Tech Time drop-in time at Hudson Library with the goal to assist attendees with basic smartphone, laptop, iPad and tablet skills. Tech Time sessions offer one-on-one help on any personal digital device. Tech Time is a chance for residents of all ages to bring their devices and ask any questions. Learn how to set up an email account, mute your cell phone, back up and store files. Those are just a few of the skills we teach patrons. For more information, call the Library at 828-526-3031.

Community Coffee with the Mayor: A Boys & Girls Club for Highlands: A Partnership to Action

One Friday a month from March-October at 11:00 AM, the library hosts a talk / Q&A with Highlands Mayor Pat Taylor. Each month a different local non-profit is invited to sponsor the event and provide refreshments. Community Coffee is a collaboration between the Town of Highlands and Hudson Library.  This month's topic is 'A Boys & Girls Club for Highlands: A Partnership to Action' and this month's sponsor is Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau.

Hudson Library, a branch of Fontana Regional Library, is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic candidate to fill the part-time position of Library Assistant I. The ideal candidate for the Library Assistant I will be a team player who can provide library services to meet the needs of the public. If you thrive in a rapidly changing environment while maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude, this may be the job for you.

Qualifications required for the Library Assistant I include a High School Diploma or GED. One year of customer service experience is required. One year of library experience is recommended. The successful candidate should have a commitment to quality customer service with excellent communication skills. Strong technology skills and the ability to give attention to detail are a must. A familiarity with current reading trends is needed. Preference will be given to those with previous library experience and those who can work a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities for the Library Assistant I include checking materials in and out, creating, updating, and maintaining library user records, and collecting fines and fees. The Library Assistant I assists patrons in locating materials and using the library catalog, assists with readers’ advisory service for patrons, and completes other duties that may arise during daily library operations.

The Library Assistant I is a part-time position of 15 hours per week with weekend work required. Starting salary is $10.77 per hour. The position is available immediately. Major medical health insurance benefits are not applicable to part-time employees, but you will be entitled to Revive Health benefits. FRL provides a limited health benefit plan to all regular and probationary employees which includes virtual medical and mental health care and discounted lab and pharmacy options.
