September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Fontana Regional Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that people of all ages have the most important tool for lifelong learning -- a free library card.
“Our libraries provide access and programs for everyone,” says Library Director Karen Wallace. “Adults and children alike can develop and pursue new interests, or find recreational reading and activities. There’s really something for everyone, and it’s all free with a library card.”
The same card that allows checkout of books and other materials in the library also provides access to a host of digital resources from home or anywhere else, including streaming video service featuring classic and independent movies and documentaries, as well as eBooks and eAudiobooks for use on all devices. Fifty popular magazine titles have been added to our digital collection recently and are available for checkout with no wait times or overdue fines.
Many electronic resources, as well as books and audiobooks are also available to all K-12 public school students, who now have a library account automatically set up for them through their schools (without a physical card), using one of their student ID numbers. This program, co-sponsored by the State Library, is called StudentAccess.
For more information about library services in Macon, Jackson, and Swain Counties and how to get a library card or a StudentAccess account, contact your local Fontana Regional Library location.
