More than 30,000 films are newly available for free to anyone with a library card from Fontana Regional Library. The public libraries in Macon, Jackson, and Swain Counties have subscribed to Kanopy, a video streaming service that has a huge catalog of independent and international films, classics, documentaries, and the entire Criterion Collection of critically acclaimed works.
An internet connection is required to stream Kanopy movies. Films can be watched on a computer, or any mobile device by using the Kanopy app for iOS or Android, , or on a Roku. As always, online resources are available at all Fontana Regional Library locations for patrons who do not have internet access at home.
Each library card user can watch up to 10 films per month, and any film can be watched multiple times within a 3-day period of selecting it for viewing. In addition, Kanopy films can be shown in the classroom or for any non-commercial use by a group without needing an additional license. Teachers (or anyone else) can also download the transcript of any film, or cue up one or more clips rather than the entire film. This flexibility will make Kanopy films particularly useful in the classroom.
To try the Kanopy collection, visit the Fontana Regional Library Videos & Movies page at www.fontanlib.org/videos and click on the Kanopy link to get started. You will be asked to create an account using your library card number and the PIN that is part of your library account, which is usually the last four digits of your daytime telephone number. For help with your PIN, please call your local library, which can reset it for you.
For more information or help with Kanopy, call or visit your local Fontana Regional Library location in Macon, Jackson, or Swain Counties.
