OverDrive has announced that they will be removing the OverDrive app from the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Microsoft Store in February 2022 and new users will only be able to download the Libby app going forward.
What is Libby?
Libby is the newest app from OverDrive, inspired by library and user feedback and designed to get people reading as quickly and seamlessly as possible. If you haven’t already, download the free Libby app to see how it works and start checking out all your favorite eBooks, eAudioBooks, eMagazines, and more. To learn more about Libby, you can view the on-demand “Getting started with Libby” video or visit the Libby Help site for more information.
What does this mean for current OverDrive app users?
When the OverDrive app is removed from app stores, users who already have it installed can continue to use it. OverDrive will continue to provide help and support resources for the OverDrive app.
What about the OverDrive website?
Our digital collections (https://e-inc.overdrive.com and https://nckids.overdrive.com) will also continue to be available on the web through your browser.
What is my library doing to address this change?
We’re encouraging all our e-Readers to migrate to the Libby app in order to have continuous, uninterrupted access to our OverDrive libraries. Current and continuing OverDrive app users will still be able to access OverDrive Help for troubleshooting.
You can also visit or call your local library to make an appointment for one-on-one tech assistance. Library staff can help you make the transition from the OverDrive app to the Libby app or can help you get started on your eReading adventures!
