The Marianna Black Library in Bryson City, in partnership with the VAYA Health, will be hosting an educational series on adult mental health, every fourth Monday of the month throughout the year. Join us in the meeting room for a free course on Hoarding Disorder: Hidden Secrets, Monday, September 25, 2023 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting a Autumn Sprite Family Night on Thursday, September 21 at 5:30 PM in the Storytime Room. Fall is starting, so come to the library, build fairy houses, and drink Sprite! This program is free and open to the public.

Sylva-- On Tuesday, September 19 at 6 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting Dr. John Ritchie. Dr. John Ritchie will discuss ways to enhance awareness and connections by recognizing and utilizing internal practices, senior yearnings, natural aging processes, universal spiritual practices, “negative” experiences, and senior groups. By focusing more on inner work and relationships we increase our acceptance, appreciation, and enjoyment of senior living.

The Marianna Black library has hosted a Community Music Jam in Bryson City for over a decade and the next one will be on Thursday, September 21st, at 6:00 PM on the library front patio, if weather permits, or in the library auditorium. Anyone with a guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dulcimer - anything unplugged - is invited to join. This is an opportunity for both beginners and veteran musicians to join a traditional “jam circle” and play along with others – learning old time traditional tunes or sharing them with others.

The Marianna Black Library in Bryson City is starting a new program! “Games and Things” and will be the last two Thursdays of the month. It will consist of a variety of games, including trivia’s, team games, charades, puzzles, fellowship and more. Adults 16 and up, or 12 and up if accompanied by an adult. Come on in and check us out knowing that we are sure to have a good time. And remember to sign up for Art Works every second Thursday of each month, where we create different forms of arts and crafts. We love to see you here.

The Marianna Black Library in Bryson City, will be collecting new and gently used blankets and coats (of all sizes) throughout the fall and winter months to donate to local charities and for those in need here in Swain County. There is a drop box in front of the circulation desk for your convenience. Help those in need stay warm this winter. Free and open to the public. Sylva-- On Tuesday, September 12 at 11 AM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting Jenna Kranz from Uncomplicated Kitchen for a cooking class. Participants will use our Charlie Cart, a teaching kitchen on wheels, to cook a meal that costs under $10 to make. This month, learn how to make chickpeas three different ways. Sylva-- On Thursday, September 14 at 1:30 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting a free mental health seminar facilitated by Vaya  Health. This program is in the Conference Room and is free of charge but registration is required.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting LEGO Club on Wednesday, September 13 at 4 PM in the Community Room. LEGO's will be provided for building and creating. This will be a time for kids (and adults) to be inventive LEGO engineers. This program is free and open to the public.
