Sylva-- On Wednesday, June 28th at 6 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting a screening of the special screening of the documentary, Stonewall Uprising. In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in the Greenwich Village section of New York City. Such raids were not unusual in the late 1960s, an era when homosexual sex was illegal in every state but Illinois.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting Sylva's own Professor Whizzpop on Friday, June 23 at 10:30 AM. This program is limited to 150 people. Tickets for limited events will be distributed when the library opens the morning of the event.) This program is part of the Summer Learning Program.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is partnering with Four Seasons and Pisgah Legal for a documentary and panel on end of life decisions. This workshop will meet on Tuesday, June 20 at 5:30 PM in the Community Room. All are welcome and the event is free of charge.

Sylva-- On Wednesday, June 21 at 11 AM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting Jenna Kranz from Uncomplicated Kitchen for a cooking class. Participants will use our new Charlie Cart, a teaching kitchen on wheels, to cook a meal that costs under $10 to make. This month, learn how to make a customizable BBQ sauce and salad dressing. As part of a Summer Music Series, the Marianna Black Library presents an evening of acoustic music with local singer/songwriter Liz Nance on Thursday, June 22nd, at 7:00 PM. This is rare chance to see Liz perform in an intimate setting.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting a Leap Into Science Family Night on Thursday, June 22 at 5:00 PM in the Community Room. Work together as a family to explore air, wind, and wind’s effects on various objects. This program is free and open to the public.

The Marianna Black library has hosted a Community Music Jam in Bryson City for over a decade and the next one will be on Thursday, June 15th, at 6:00 PM on the library front patio, if weather permits, or in the library auditorium.  Anyone with a guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dulcimer - anything unplugged - is invited to join. This is an opportunity for both beginners and veteran musicians to join a traditional “jam circle” and play along with others – learning old time traditional tunes or sharing them with others.

Sylva-- On Mondays, starting June 12 and running through July 24, the Jackson County Public Library will be hosting Teen Time at 3 PM. Join us this summer as we tie dye, learn some easy recipes, run through town to complete The Amazing Race, and work to connect with and build up our community!

Sylva-- On Mondays, at 4 PM, the Jackson County Public Library will be hosting Read With Bailey. To practice accuracy and fluency, and improve confidence in reading, learners can read to Bailey, a certified therapy dog! Bailey and his handler will be available by appointment only each week this summer—Call the Library Youth Services (828)-586-2016 to make an appointment. 

Sylva-- On Thursday, June 15 at 6 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting local jazz quartet The Jazz Cats. This program is in the Community Room and is free of charge.
