This no-impact class uses slow-paced, fluid movements that promote calmness while exercising the body and brain, to help improve strength,balance, mood, and cognitive function, while reducing stress, blood pressure, and the risk of falling. Wear comfortable clothes and flat, non-slip shoes. Bring a water bottle.
The library is co-hosting this first class, then the class will continue independently on a weekly basis.
An exploration of the traditions of Japanese New Year's and the customs observed. After a short presentation, Etsuko Modlin and Yumiko Ono will help participants craft their own 'Daruma Dolls' - traditional dolls used in making New Year's resolutions. Participants will also learn about Japanese Calligraphy while making their own 2026 calendars. Lastly, everyone will enjoy Isobeyaki - grilled mochi - a sticky rice cake that is eaten by Japanese families at New Year's.

This course offers an examination of ageism and its effects on older adults in various aspects of life, including health care, social interactions, and community engagement. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how age-based discrimination impacts well-being and learn practical strategies to challenge and reduce ageism, fostering a more inclusive and respectful environment for all ages.
