The Marianna Black Library in Bryson City, in partnership with the VAYA Health, will be hosting an educational series on adult mental health, every fourth Monday of the month throughout the year. Join us in the meeting room for a free course on PTSD: Healing the Emotional Wound. Join us Monday, May 22, 2023 from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.

The Marianna Black library has hosted a Community Music Jam in Bryson City for over a decade and the next one will be on Thursday, May 18th, 6:00 PM on the library front patio, if weather permits, or in the library auditorium.  Anyone with a guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dulcimer - anything unplugged - is invited to join. This is an opportunity for both beginners and veteran musicians to join a traditional “jam circle” and play along with others – learning old time traditional tunes or sharing them with others.

The Marianna Black Library, in Bryson City, will be hosting special program for area children with stories read by local children’s book authors and illustrators on Tuesday, May 16th, at 2:30pm.  We are happy to present authors Lynda Keener Farren, Virginia Urani, and Marcia Hawley Barnes; along with illustrator Doreyl Ammons Cain, and storyteller Amy Ammons Garza for the special library storytime!

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting a T-Rex and Tea Party on Tuesday, May 16 at 5:30 PM in the Storytime Room. Tea time is here, and so are the dinosaurs! Join us for a tea-rrific time learning about dinosaurs while we enjoy tea and snacks!. This program is free and open to the public.

Sylva-- Have you ever wondered what you are actually looking at when you go on a hike? There are many places and people who can tell you all about the flora and fauna you will see, but there are not many that can go deeper, into and below the soil. On Thursday, May 18 at 6 PM, WCU Geology professor Dr. Cheryl Waters-Tormey will discuss the unique geology of western North Carolina and what you can look for on the hiking trails. This event will be in the Community Room and is free of charge.

Sylva-- On Tuesday, May 16th at 6 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting the Executive Director of the Balsam Mountain Trust, Dr. Michael Wall. Birds and insects are inextricably entwined. We see it in bird names: Flycatchers, Gnatcatchers, Bee-eaters, and more. But insects are more than just bird food and interact with our feathery friends in amazing ways.

Sylva-- On Thursday, May 18 at 1 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting a free mental health seminar facilitated by Vaya Health. This program is in the Conference Room and is free of charge but registration is required.

Sylva-- On Saturday, May 6 at 3 PM in the Community Room, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting local jazz collective We Three Swing for a musical concert. This program is open to all ages and is free of charge.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is partnering with Four Seasons for a workshop on Navigating Grief With Music. This workshop will meet on May 9 at 5:30 PM in the Community Room. All are welcome and the event is free of charge.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting LEGO Club on Thursday, May 11 at 4 PM in the Community Room. LEGO's will be provided for building and creating. This will be a time for kids (and adults) to be inventive LEGO engineers. This program is free and open to the public.
