Sylva-- On Wednesday , November 8 at 1:30 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting a free mental health seminar facilitated by Vaya Health. This program is in the Conference Room and is free of charge but registration is required.
Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting LEGO Club on Wednesday, November 8 at 4 PM in the Storytime Room. LEGO's will be provided for building and creating. This will be a time for kids (and adults) to be inventive LEGO engineers. This program is free and open to the public.
Sylva-- On Thursday, October 26 at 6 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is starting a monthly Adult Craft Time in the Conference Room. Adult Craft Time is a once a month social creative outlet for adults. The library will supply materials but participants are encouraged to bring ideas and supplies to share with each other. For the first session, participants will upcycle old magazines into bowls.
Participants will join local artist Maureen Hydaker to create beautiful satin cord bracelets using the Japanese art of Kumikimo. Kumikimo takes strands of cord and creates a braid that is beautiful and a great foundation for adding beads and charms of focal pieces, creating one of a kind designs.
The Marianna Black Library in Bryson City, in partnership with the VAYA Health, continues to host an educational series on adult mental health, every fourth Monday of the month throughout the year. Join us in the meeting room for a free course on “Neurocognitive Disorders and the Basics of Dementia: The Four Main Types,” Monday, October 23, 2023 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
The Marianna Black library has hosted a Community Music Jam in Bryson City for over a decade and the next one will be on Thursday, October 19h, at 6:00 PM on the library front patio, if weather permits, or in the library auditorium. Anyone with a guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dulcimer - anything unplugged - is invited to join. This is an opportunity for both beginners and veteran musicians to join a traditional “jam circle” and play along with others – learning old time traditional tunes or sharing them with others.
