Area children are all invited to a fun new program on Tuesday, October 24th from 4:30-6:00, as Marianna Black Library will be having a fall night called "Pixies Have Escaped!”.

This is a Harry Potter themed Family Night for kids of ALL AGES. The Family Night features a pixie scavenger hunt throughout the whole library. Participants are then invited to come to the Community Room for light refreshments and additional smaller activities.

Join Donna Glee Williams, author of 'The Night Field,' as she reads from and signs copies of her new novel. She will be accompanied by composer and musician Lynn Morgan Rosser, who will perform a song-cycle based on the novel. This free event will be Thursday, October 12th, at 7pm at the Marianna Black Library, in downtown Bryson City.

Open Enrollment for Affordable Health Care is coming soon – November 1st through January 15th.  And Pisgah Legal Services is ready to help you apply for affordable healthcare at the Marianna Black Library, in Bryson City.

Join Mitt, with Pisgah Legal, who will be at the library from 2-4 p.m. every Thursday throughout October to answer any questions you may have! Sylva -- On Tuesdays October 10, 17, 31, and November 7 from 6-7 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is presenting a four-part series of lectures/discussions on Four Philosophical Puzzles led by retired Clemson professor Todd May. This series will be in the Community Room, is free, and requires no registration.

Sylva-- On Thursday, October 12 at 1:30 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting a free mental health seminar facilitated by Vaya Health. This program is in the Conference Room and is free of charge but registration is required.

The Friends of the Marianna Black Library will present local author Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle on Sunday, October 15th, at 2:00pm at the Marianna Black library. Clapsaddle will read from and sign copies of her award-winning novel, Even As We Breathe.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting Matt Cass from SCC on Wednesday, October 4 at 4 PM in the Storytime Room. Matt will be talking about the upcoming partial Solar Eclipse happening on October 14th. This program is free and open to the public.

Sylva-- The Jackson County Public Library is hosting LEGO Club on Wednesday, October 11 at 4 PM in the Storytime Room. LEGO's will be provided for building and creating. This will be a time for kids (and adults) to be inventive LEGO engineers. This program is free and open to the public.

Sylva-- On Wednesday, October 4 at 7:30 PM, the Jackson County Public Library is hosting Los Angeles pianist Michael Ragonese and his trio for the release of his second album, “Stracci”. Stracci, meaning "Rags" in Italian, is Michael's take on a self-titled album - paying tribute to his Italian heritage and childhood nickname, and featuring songs that incorporate his roots as a classical pianist. The trio features Anthony Fung on drums and Emilio Terranova on bass.

The Marianna Black Library in Bryson City, in partnership with the VAYA Health, will be hosting an educational series on adult mental health, every fourth Monday of the month throughout the year. Join us in the meeting room for a free course on Hoarding Disorder: Hidden Secrets, Monday, September 25, 2023 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
