Fontana Regional Library locations in Jackson, Macon, and Swain Counties are working with community partners to help people sign up for health insurance. Open Enrollment for Affordable Care Act health insurance policies closes on December 15. Before then, there are several in-person events to connect people to Certified Application Counselors and Navigators who provide free and unbiased help in choosing and signing up for a plan. Most people in North Carolina who sign up for a plan are eligible for a subsidy that helps pay the premium.

The Macon County NCWorks Career Center is sponsoring its inaugural NCWorks Community Resource Fair from 2-4 pm on Friday, December 6, at the Macon County Public Library.

Jackson Neighbors in Need is once again bringing four local organizations together for an Annual Blanket Drive. The Jackson County Public Library, The Department on Aging, The Department of Social Services, and Mountain Projects are collecting new blankets for people in need. New hats, scarves, and gloves can also be donated to the drive.

Fontana Regional Library is celebrating 75 years of service this year, and the Friends of the Macon County Public Library are hosting an Open House at the library on Friday, November 1st from 4:00-6:00pm to mark the occasion. Light refreshments will be served, several local authors will present their newest works, and new art will be on display.

Fontana Regional Library celebrates its 75th anniversary this summer, honoring the library’s humble beginnings in 1944, when the Tennessee Valley Authority sponsored a regional bookmobile to visit the most remote areas of Jackson, Macon and Swain Counties. 

The Marianna Black Library in Bryson City has been planning for expanded library services in Swain County and would like to share some information with the community.  Not only that, but we would love to hear your ideas and opinions regarding library services in Swain.  Please plan to join us for one of the Community Input Gatherings listed below.  The presentation will only take 15-20 minutes and then there will be time for comments, questions, and answers.  These are not fundraisers.  We are only asking for a small amount of your time and your feed back.
